Biography

Diego Godoy is born in 1991 in Antofagasta, Chile, and now he is living in France.
At age of 14 he began his musical studies in Liceo de Música de Copiapó, (Atacama, Chile). In 2007 his voice came out during his studies in the lessons of M°Rodrigo Tapia Salfate. He became a member of the Symphonic Choir of Copiapó and sang as soloist. Between 2011 and 2015 he studied with the Chilean mezzosoprano Graciela Araya in the “Ramón Vinay” Center of Operatic Studies of Chile, where he focused his repertoire: belcanto, Mozart, French repertoire.

In 2013 he made his debut as Benvolio in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette in the National Opera of Chile conducted by Yves Abel.
In 2013 and 2014 as student of R.V.C.O.S. he performed the roles of Lindoro in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri, Tonio in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment and Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto. In 2015 he performed as Azaël in Debussy’s L’enfant prodigue in Berlin’s Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche. He also sang the role of Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte in Trinidad & Tobago’s Queen’s Hall Theatre and Albazar in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia in National Opera of Chile under the baton of José M. Pérez Sierra and the direction of Emilio Sagi.

From 2015 to 2017 he studied at the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin with Sylvie Valayre, Lionel Sarrazin, Umberto Finazzi and Felice Venanzoni.
In the years in Strasburg he has sung the roles of Almaviva in Paisiello’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Le Prince in Wolf-Ferrari’s Cendrillon, Arbace in Mozart’s Idomeneo, Edoardo Milfort in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio, Fernand in Donizetti’s La Favorite, Florville in Rossini’s Il signor Bruschino, Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. In the summer 2017 he was Tonio in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment in Kirchstetten, Austria.

In 2017/18 season he sang the role of Araspe in the world premiere of Mercadante’s Didone abbandonata at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik conducted by Alessandro de Marchi and directed by Jürgen Flimm, Lindoro in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri in Pisa and Rovigo, Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Opéra de Reims and Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale at the Warsaw’s Chamber Opera, Don Ramiro in Rossini’s Cenerentola in Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino di Firenze, Uriel in the world première of the Simone Mayr’s italian version of Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, conducted by Corrado Rovaris and directed by Francesco Micheli at the Donizetti Opera Festival di Bergamo.

In 2019 he made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Conte di Libenskof (Il Viaggio a Reims).

So far he has worked with the conductors Daniele Callegari, Antonino Fogliani, Constantin Trinks, José M. Pérez-Sierra, Sergio Alapont, Yves Abel and the directors Robert Carsen, Olivier Py, Anne Le-Guernec, Stefano Vizioli.
