Biography

Swiss tenor Fabio Trümpy graduated in English language and literature at Zürich University and in singing at the local Conservatory, before moving to Amsterdam to study with Margreet Honig. He subsequently joined the Opera Studio Nederland and in 2007 was awarded the Prix des Amis du Festival d’Art Lyrique in Aix-en-Provence.

A former member of the Opernhaus Zürich, his roles for this house included Telemaco/Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Oronte/Alcina and Steuermann/Der Fliegende Holländer.

Elsewhere, he has sung Tamino/Die Zauberflöte at the Spoleto Festival in the US, Camille/Die lustige Witwe at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, Aleya/House from the Dead staged by Calixto Bieito at Theater Basel, Pane/La Calisto and Fritz in Offenbach’s La Grande-duchesse de Gerolstein, both at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Pastore and Spirito in Sasha Waltz’ production of Monteverdi’s Orfeo at Bergen Festival, Opera de Lille and Berlin State Opera, with the Freiburger Barockorchester, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado.

With the Orchestra of the 18th Century he has performed Evangelist in Bach’s Johannes-Passion and tenor arias in the Matthäus-Passion, Jaquino in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Basilio and Don Curzio/Le Nozze di Figaro and Haydn’s Schöpfung.

Other concert appearances include Donizetti's Requiem at the Festival St. Denis, Evangelist in Bach’s Matthäus-Passion with the Residentie Orkest, Bach cantatas with Le Choeur de Chambre de Namur under Leonardo García Alarcón, the B minor Mass and Ferrando/Cosi fan tutte with the Israel Camerata, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle with the Flemish Radio Choir under Hervé Niquet at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Le berger in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Charles Dutoit, Iro in Hans Werner Henze’s adaptation of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and Kurt Weill’s Berliner Requiem with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich under David Zinman and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Züricher Kammerorchester and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Most recently, Fabio Truempy returned to Opernhaus Zürich as Oronte in Handel’s Alcina, sang Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at the theatre in Versailles and Evangelist in Bach's Johannes-Passion on tour throughout Europe, both with Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski, as well as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at the Beaune Festival, under Jeremie Rhorer.
