Biography

Nicola Ulivieri is a steady presence of the international Opera scene. Gifted by a special beautiful voice and besides a fine technique he’s an exquisite bel canto performer, also thanks to his great stage presence.

Participant of the main international seasons, he performed at Teatro alla Scala in many occasions, and also at Teatro Regio in Turin, Gran Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Opera di Roma, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro Comunale in Florence, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and many others.
Abroad he’s been guest of Metropolitan opera house in New York, Salzburger Festspiele, Aix en Provence Festival, Theater an der Wien, Washington Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Liceu in Barcelona, Edinburgh International Festival, La Monnaie in Bruxelles, Opera de Lyon, Welsh National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Strasbourg Musica Festival, Palau de las Artes in Valencia, Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbona, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Dresden Music Festival, Wiener Konzerthaus. He also performed in concerts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and Radio France.

He has been under the baton of important conductors, such as Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Daniele Gatti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, András Schiff, Michele Mariotti, Daniel Harding, Jesùs Lopez Cobos, Gianandrea Noseda, Jordi Savall, Fabio Luisi, Lu Jia, Daniel Oren, Marcello Viotti, Alain Lombard, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Roberto Abbado, Carlo Rizzi, Gianluigi Gelmetti, James Conlon.

He also won the prestigious award Premio Abbiati from the Italian critics for his interpretations of Mozart.

Recently he sung in Cosi fan tutte at Teatro Comunale in Bologna, also singed at La Scala, Don Giovanni in Turin, Il Viaggio a Reims at De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, I Puritani at Teatro Regio in Turin, Il Flauto magico in Bologna and La Sonnambula in Paris, Don Giovanni in Trieste, L’Italiana in Algeri in Treviso and Ferrara, Benvenuto Cellini in Rome, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Bilbao, Norma in Macerata, Rosmonda d’Inghilterra in Florence and Bergamo, Il viaggio a Reims in Copenaghen and Rome; I Puritani in Montpellier, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Dresden, Roméo et Juliette in Barcelona, La Sonnambula in Muscat and Turin, I Puritani in Palermo; among recent engagements: L’Italiana in Algeri in Trieste, Don Giovanni in Tokyo, Ricciardo e Zoraide in Pesaro, Peter Pan in Stresa, I Puritani in Barcelona, La donna del lago in Marseille; Maria Stuarda in Paris, Nabucco in Trieste.

In 2019 he made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Don Profondo (Il Viaggio a Reims).
