Biography
Baritone David Menéndez was born in Castrillón, Asturias (Spain).He has a degree in Musical Education from the University of Oviedo. He studied singing under the guidance of Professor Maria Dolores Tamargo, finishing his professional degree with a brilliant qualification. Mr. Menéndez completed his postgraduate studies under the leadership of Ana Luisa Chova at the Upper Conservatory Joaquín Rodrigo in Valencia, graduating with high honours. He has studied musical development with Helmut Lips, Ana Luisa Chova and Robert Expert, and has received magisterial classes by Elena Obraztsova, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Renata Scotto, Gabriela Tucci, Àntonietta Stella, Michael Zanetti and Kamal Kahn.
Mr. Menéndez has had a distinguished career spanning not only in various cities across Spain, but in Esztergom (Hungary), Eysines (France), Sofia (Bulgaria) and El Salvador, as well.

His repertoire includes Fauré's Requiem, Christmas Oratory and Brief Mass F major BWV 233 by J. S. Bach, Messiah by G.F. Haendel, Coronation Mass by W.A. Mozart, Cantata 147 and Cantata 90 by J.S. Bach, Requiem KV626 by W.A. Mozart, Mass in E‐flat Major by Schubert, Dvořák's Stabat Mater, Missa in tempori belli by Haydn, 9th Symphony by Beethoven, and other pieces, as well.
He has offered a concert with Spanish Radio RTVE's Orchestra at the Monumental Theatre of Madrid under Uwe Mund's direction, as well as a recital for "Concerts de la 2" and "RTVE's International Channel."
He made his debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid in the role of Don Carlos in The Pledge of Gaztambide, under the musical direction of M. Roa. He has participated in Salome by R. Strauss at the Palau de la Música de Valencia under the direction of R. Weikert, repeating their participation in later seasons of opera directed by M. Oviedo Valdes and E. Sagi and Bilbao, J. And E. Mena Sagi, and in Moses und Aron of Schönberg in the Auditorium of Barcelona and the Granada Music Festival under the direction of A. Tamayo. Mr. Menéndez debuted as Parmenione in L'ocassione fa il ladro at the Opera Liceu Workshop under the direction of J. Pons, and in the Auditorium of Santiago de Compostela initiating a particular affinity with the roles of Rossini. He has participated in works of contemporary music as in the Orfeo of D. W. Kirchner, Boulevard Solitude by Henze (Teatre del Liceu) or in the world premiere of La hija del Cielo in the Teatro Perez Galdos in Las Palmas in a staging of La Fura dels Baus.
In the season 2012/13 he sang Guglielmo in Mozart`s Così fan Tutte (Baluarte, Pamplona), Donner in Wagner`s Das Rheingold and Gaztambide`s El Juramento (Ópera de Oviedo), Dandini in Rossini`s La Cenerentola (Opera de Toulon).
Highlights of the 2014/15 season includes La Bohème at the Quincena musical (San Sebastian) and Pagliacci at the Granada international festival of music and dance.
Among recent engagements Count Almaviva in Mozart`s Le Nozze di Figaro (Ópera de Oviedo), Schaunard in Puccini`s La Bohème (Teatre del Liceu).
There are several DVD‐Recordings with David Menéndez being part of the cast. For the famous Label DECCA, he has sung the role of Dandini in La Cenerentola by Rossini under the direction of J. Font and P.Sumers. Furthermore, he has performed as Schaunard in La Bohème directed by J. L. Cobos and being recorded and release on DVD by Opus Arte.
