Biography

Giovanni Furlanetto studied at the “Pedrollo” Conservatory of Vicenza, where he graduated in singing under Luisa Romana Righetti while he was having his first professional experiences as a theatre and circus actor. He imposes himself on the international scene by winning in 1988 the “Opera Company of Philadelphia - Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition” and performing in many important Italian and foreign productions.

His wonderful career brought him to perform on the principal international theatres and festivals including Teatro alla Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Salzburg Festival, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Opéra National de Paris, Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Festival in Aix-en Provence, Opéra de Montecarlo, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Bruxelles, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro La Maestranza in Sevilla, Festival Mozart in Madrid and in La Coruña, Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon, Rossini Opera Festival di Pesaro, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Glyndebourne Opera Festival, Barbican Center in London, Santa Fe Opera Festival, San Francisco Opera Company, Baltimore Opera Company, Opéra de Montréal, Philadelphia Opera Company.

Ideal interpreter of Mozart’s, Rossini’s and Donizetti’s repertoire, he worked with important conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, Antonio Pappano, Daniele Gatti, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, and with such stage directors as Dario Fo and Luca Ronconi.

He opened the 2015/16 season performing Il turco in Italia at Opera in Metz, followed by La Gazza ladra at Oper in Frankfurt and Rigoletto at Teatro alla Scala.

During the 2014/15 season her performed as Timur in Turandot in Metz, Il trovatore (Ferrando) in St. Petersburg, Alcina (Melisso) at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie de Bruxelles and in Amsterdam, Don Giovanni (Leporello) in Vicenza.

His recent engagements have also included Amelia al ballo at Opéra di Montecarlo, La favorite at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Luisa Miller (Conte di Walter) at Opéra de Lausanne, Maria Stuarda at the Opéra de Lyon and at the Théatre du Châtelet in Paris, La favorite at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago del Chile, La vedova scaltra in Montpellier, Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, in Napoli and in Santiago de Chile, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Bruxelles, Il turco in Italia at the Opernhaus in Leipzig, at the Hamburgische Staatsoper and at the Staatsoper in Berlin, L’Etoile under the baton of Simon Ratte at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Il trovatore at the Opéra de Massy, La fanciulla del West and Marco Tutino’s Senso (world premiere) at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Il barbiere di Siviglia (Don Basilio) at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Lucia di Lammermoor (Raimondo) at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste.

In 2016 he took part in the production of Don Pasquale at the Bolshoi Theatre, singing the title role.
