Biography
Born in Moscow. In 1996 he graduated with honours from the Gnesin Music College and in 1999 from the Russian Academy of the Performing Arts (RATI previously GITIS). From 1999-2001 he did a postgraduate course at the Academy’s faculty of vocal art. From 2000-03, he was a soloist at the State Academic Moscow Operetta Theatre. From 2003-05 he was a postgraduate at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre, where he made his debut as Grigory Gryaznoy (The Tsar’s Bride).He took part in the master classes of Mstislav Rostropovich, Galina Vishnevskaya, Boris Pokrovsky, Mauro Trombetta, Eugene Kohn, Tito Capobianco, Sherrill Milnes, Michail Jurowski, Placido Domingo, and Pavel Lisitsian.Since 2005, he has been a soloist at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre.
In 2011, he participated in an Opera Tampa Young Artist Program under the leadership of Sherrill Milnes (Florida, USA).
He participated in the following international music and arts festivals: Sergei Rachmaninov and Ukrainian Culture (Kharkov), Russian Music in the Baltic (Kaliningrad), Russian Culture Festival in South Africa, Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Moscow. He took part in the Spazio Musica Festival (Orvieto, Italy), singing the part of Giorgio Germont in La Traviata (conductor Marco Zambelli). In 2013 he took part in Peregrinos Musicales festival at Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
He has also toured in Italy, France, Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Mexico, USA and South Africa.
His repertoire includes: Grigory Gryaznoy (The Tsar’s Bride); Schaunard (La Boheme); Tomsky (The Queen of Spades); Title role (Eugene Onegin); Robert, Ibn-Hakia (Iolanta); Title role (Prince Igor); Title role (Macbeth); Conte di Luna (Il Trovatore); Iago (Otello); Renato (Un Ballo in Maschera); Giorgio Germont (La Traviata); Silvio, Tonio (Pagliacci); Scarpia (Tosca); Valentin (Faust); Escamillo (Carmen); Shchelkalov (Boris Godunov), Seargeant (Katerina Izmailova).
AT THE BOLSHOI THEATRE
In 2014 Alexander Kasyanov made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Grigory Gryaznoy in the new production of The Tsar's Bride. In 2014-15 he took part in the Bolshoi Theatre tours to Vienna, New York and Hong Kong, singing the part of Grigory Gryaznoy (conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky).
Later he performed the following roles at the Bolshoi: Schaunard (La Boheme), Tomsky (The Queen of Spades), Ibn-Hakia (Iolanta), Seargeant (Katerina Izmailova).
