Andrey Zhilikhovsky

Biography

Born in Moldova, Andrey Zhilikhovsky completed his studies in choral conducting at the Stefan Nyaga Musical College in Chișinău in 2006. Whilst at college he also studied the voice and upon graduation was granted a place at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St Petersburg.

In 2010-12 Andrey was a soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre St. Petersburg, where he appeared as Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), Schaunard (La bohème), Robert (Iolanta), Prince (Asafiev’s Cinderella), Silvano (Un ballo in maschera), Baron Douphol (La Traviata) and Dancairo (Carmen). He made his debut with the Latvian National Opera as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) in 2011 and in 2012 he joined the Young Artist Programme of the Bolshoi Theatre.
In 2014-2019 Andrey Zhilikhovsky was a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company, where he continues as a guest soloist.

In 2016 he appeared as Robert (Iolanta) at the Opéra National de Paris, and Schaunard (La Boheme) at the Teatro Municipal, Santiago de Chile. Performed the title part in Eugene Onegin at the Icelandic Opera, Reykjavik (2016) and L’opéra de Nice (France, 2017).
2017 – Schaunard (La Bohème) at the Opéra National de Paris, Dr. Malatesta (Don Pasquale) at Glyndebourne Festival Opera .
2018 – Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the Washington National Opera.
The highlights of the season 2018/19 include the house debut at Teatro dell’ Opera Roma, where he appeared as Count Almaviva in the new production of Le nozze di Figaro (conductor Stefano Montanari, director Graham Vick); Don Ferdinand in Betrothal in a Monastery new production of Dmitri Tcherniakov (conductor Daniel Barenboim) at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, and also returns to the Glyndebourne Festival to perform in Il barbiere di Siviglia.
On concert stage he made his long-awaited UK recital debut the 2018/19 season with accompanist Iain Burnisde in the Russian Song Series.

Throughout his career, Andrey Zhilikhovsky has worked with many important conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Rafael Payare, Mikhail Tatarnikov, Anton Grishanin, Vassily Petrenko, Giacomo Sagripanti, and Alain Altinoglu, along with many notable directors including Graham Vick, Claus Guth, Andrej Zhagars, Arno Bernard, Aik Karapetian. Andrey collaborates frequently with director Dmitri Tcherniakov.

This season, he made house debut at the Metropolitan Opera in La bohème and returns to the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia to perform in Tcherniakov’s new production of Sadko by Rimsky-Korsakov.
