Biography

Born in Petrozavodsk. Graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in choral conducting (class of  Fyodor Kozlov) and vocals (class of  Yekaterina Manukhova). Also studied vocals with  Georgy Zastavny at the St Petersburg Conservatoire. From 2002–2003 she attended the Accademia della Voce in Turin (Italy), where she was taught by Franca Matteucci.
While a student at the Conservatoire she made her debut at the Conservatoire’s Music Theatre as Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, also appearing as Musetta in the opera La Bohème and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte.
From 2000–2002 she was a soloist with the Zazerkalye St Petersburg Music Theatre, where she appeared in Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas brasileiras, as Giulietta and Antonia in Offenbach’s opera Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
In 2002 she made her Italian debut at the Teatro Regio in Turin as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth, a role she subsequently performed on numerous occasions at opera houses throughout Europe and the USA as well as at the Salzburg Festival and the Opera di Roma under Riccardo Muti.

Since 2014 she has been a Mariinsky Opera soloist. Her repertoire there includes: Liza (The Queen of Spades), Abigail (Nabucco), the title part (Aida), Leonora (Il trovatore), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Floria Tosca (Tosca), Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra), Odabella (Attila), Elisabeth of Valois (Don Carlo), the title part (Adriana Lecouvreur), Alice Ford (Falstaff). 

She has performed the lead role in Hindemith’s Sancta Susanna at the Opera festival in Ravenna, in New York, Lisbon, Montpellier and Teatro alla  Scala in Milan.
Has performed the roles of Freia in Wagner’s Das Rheingold (Lisbon), Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and the title role in Bellini’s Norma (Trieste).
Made her debut as Tosca in Bologna, later singing the same role in Palermo, Bregenz, Berlin and Munich.
Made her debut in Verdi’s Aida at the Bregenz Festival. In Verdi’s I due Foscari she has sung the role of Lucrezia Contarini at theatres in Palermo, Modena and Rome.
At the Opera di Roma she has appeared as Lida in Verdi’s La battaglia di Legnano and Odabella in Attila under the baton of Riccardo Muti.

In the summer of 2012 she made her debut in Andrea Chénier (Bregenz).
On numerous occasions she has performed solo roles in spiritual works at the Great Hall of the Philharmonic, the Academic Capella, Smolny Cathedral, the State Hermitage and other venues throughout St Petersburg.
In 2004 she took part in a concert performance of the opera Norma at the festival in Ravenna and in Bosra (Syria) under Riccardo Muti. This performance was broadcast on Italian TV.
Has performed the soprano role in Shostakovich’s Fourteenth Symphony in Lisbon and Bregenz.
Has performed Verdi’s Requiem in London, Tenerife, Toulouse, San Sebastian, Paris, Brescia, Bologna, Montpellier, Kazan and Moscow.

Under the baton of Riccardo Muti in 2013 she appeared at the Opera di Roma in lead roles in Verdi’s operas I due Foscari (Lucrezia), Nabucco (Abigaille) and Ernani (Elvira) and in Chicago with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in  Macbeth (Lady Macbeth) and the soprano role in a performance of the Requiem marking two centuries since Verdi’s birth.
Has appeared in performances of the opera Macbeth at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev and at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival under James Conlon.
At the Rostropovich Festival in Moscow and in Bologna she has performed the soprano role in Verdi’s Requiem.

In 2019 she made her debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera).
