Oxana Volkova

Biography

Oxana Volkova was born in Minsk. She graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music, vocal class of Professor Lidia Galushkina. In 2002, was invited to the National Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. In 2009 Oxana Volkova joined the Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Program (Director Professor Dmitry Vdovin).

Since 2010 she has been a guest soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company and performed the roles of Carmen (G.Bizet’s Carmen), Lyubasha (N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride), Olga (P. Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Fenena (Verdi’s Nabucco), the Page (N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia), Laura (A. Dargomyzhsky’s The Stone Guest), Poulina (P. Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades), Marina Mnishek (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov).

Tours

She received international acclaim after her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2013 where she sang Maddalena (Rigoletto). In the 2017/2018 season Oksana has also made her Salzburg Festival debut under Mariss Jansons as Polina in The Queen of Spades.

 The singer’s repertoire amounts to over 20 operatic roles. Her engagements on the European opera stage include Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) at La Scala and in Geneva and Naples; Olga (Eugene Onegin) at the Royal Opera House, Teatro Real and Staatsoper Hamburg; Polina (The Queen of Spades) at the Salzburg Festival; Laura (La Gioconda) in Palermo; Marguerite (The Damnation of Faust) in Nice, and many more. She also sang Dalila (Samson et Dalila) at NCPA in Beijing, and Preziosilla (La forza del destino) and Maddalena (Rigoletto) in Israel.

 Volkova received the National Theatre Award (Belarus) in 2016 for her signature role of Carmen. She has successfully performed Bizet’s opera around the world, from Buenos Aires and Salzburg to Moscow and Tokyo.

 Notable concert engagements include Verdi’s Requiem with Opera Nice and Tanglewood Festival, Tchaikovsky’s Moscow Cantata in Copenhagen with Alexander Vedernikov, Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with the Dublin Symphony Orchestra, Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death with the Mariinsky Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev in Lucerne, and a tour with the Moscow Virtuosi.
