Biography
Gyula Harangozó was the Artistic Director of the Ballet Troupe of the Budapest Opera in 1996–2004. In 2005–10 he was the Ballet Director of Staatsoper Wien and Volksoper Wien, as well as the Artistic Director of the Staatsoper Wien Ballet School. Gyula Harangozó has been a choreographer and ballet master at the Budapest Opera House since 1996.His dance studies began at the State Ballet Institute and were completed – with outstanding grades – at the Moscow Academy of Ballet. A contract at the Opera House awaited him on his return to Hungary, and he was soon dancing leading roles before being nominated as a soloist a few years later. His career abroad started at the beginning of the eighties, and he spent a number of years as the first soloist in the ballet companies of the Wiener Staatsoper and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. As a guest performer he appeared on almost all the noteworthy ballet stages of the world and travelled around the globe. He has been a much sought-after guest performer, until finally a serious injury forced his retirement from active dancing. Before returning to Hungary, he worked as an international ballet manager. He has received the Officer grade of the Cross of Merit award/Artist of Merit, a decoration awarded by the Republic of Hungary.
