Biography
Born inManchester. Trained in Music at Salford University, Lighting and Design at RADA and the Yale School of Drama, in Architecture at University of North London and Music Composition at the University of Surrey.He is a Lighting Manager for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, and the co-author of, “The Handbook of Stage Lighting”, with Neil Fraser.
His many designs for The Royal Ballet include Caught Dance, Renard, The Lesson, Consolations and Liebestraum, Dear Norman, Les Lutins, Non-linear Interactions, Now, Recordato, Yes we did…, Ballo della regina, ‘New Works in the Linbury’ 2009 and 2010, Elizabeth and, as associate to Lucy Carter, Metamorphosis: Titian 2012 and Raven Girl. He also created the lighting design for the Royal Opera House’s Life Reimagined gala.
Work away from the Royal Opera House includes Romeo & Julia for the Royal Ballet of Flanders, pieces with Cathy Marston for Bern Ballet and lighting designs for companies including English National Ballet, George Piper Dances, Royal Danish Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Boston Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and Australian Ballet, and for such choreographers as Johan Kobborg, Kim Brandstrup and Shobana Jeyasingh.
Bennison’s award nominations include In a Minor Key with Viacheslav Samodurov and the Mikhailovsky Ballet, nominated for Best Lighting at the Golden Mask Awards in 2011.
