Biography
Graduated from the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy in Kiev in 2008 (Anatoly Mokrenko’s class).In 2003, he joined the National Opera of Ukraine as a member of the chorus, and in 2006 he became a trainee with the National Opera.
In 2007, he became a soloist of the National Opera and the Opera Studio of the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy.
His repertoire includes more than 20 roles: Ivan Karas (Hulak-Artemovsky’s Cossack Beyond the Danube), Vyborny (Lysenko’s Natalka-Poltavka), Malyuta Skuratov, Vasily Sobakin (Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride), Varlaam, Pimen (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov), Dulcamara (Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore), Don Basilio, Don Magnifico (Rossini’s La Cinderella), Ibn-Hakia, René (Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta), Galitsky (Borodin’s Prince Igor), Zuniga (Bizet’s Carmen), the Water Sprite (Dvořák’s Rusalka), Samuel (Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera), Philippe II (Verdi’s Don Carlos), the King of Egypt, Ramfis (Verdi’s Aida), Saltan (Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tale of Tsar Saltan), the Cook (Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges), and the bass part in the 13th Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich.
In 2009, he participated in the International Chaliapin Opera Festival in Kazan.
In 2012, Andrey Gonyukov joined the Mikhailovsky Opera. He took part in the concert performances of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut (Geronte) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Leporello) under the baton of Mikhail Tatarnikov. He performed Malyuta Skuratov in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride (production by Andrey Moguchy).
In 2014, he made his Bolshoi Theatre debut in the part of Varlaam (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov). He also took part in the productions of Puccini’s La Bohème (Colline), Verdi’s Don Carlo (Philippe II), Shostakovich’s Katerina Izmailova (Boris Timofeyevich), Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims (Don Profondo), Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tale of Tsar Saltan (Tsar Saltan), in the concert performances of Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans (Dunois) and Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims (Trombonok), as well.
In 2016 he appeared as Varlaam (Boris Godunov) at The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni) at the Glyndebourne Festival and Surin (The Queen of Spades) at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam.
Among recent engagements: Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk (Old Convict) at Salzburg Festival, Die Walküre (Hunding) at the Beijing Music Festival, Siegfried (Fafner) at Lyric Opera of Chicago; Boris Godunov (Varlaam) in concert at the Royal Albert Hall London with Antonio Pappano, concert version of Massenet’s Don Quichotte (Sancho) with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse at Musikverein Wien, Don Giovanni (Il Commendatore) at Teatro Colón A Coruña.
