Biography

Dieuweke van Reij graduated as scenographer and costume designer from the theatre academy in Utrecht.

She works as a prolific costume and set designer for opera, dance, theatre, comedy, musical and for the very successful children’s television production HoelaHoep. She designs on a regular base for the Dutch music-theatre group Orkater, with which some of her designs have travelled as far as Brazil. She has worked amongst others for the Reisopera, National Theatre, Dansgroup Amsterdam, the singer Wende and orchestras like The Dutch Wind Ensemble and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. She is part of the creative team of theatre-dance collective De Fantasten with whom her recent scenography was hailed in the newspapers. She designed costumes for the Opera Academy’s Don Quichotte, the free production of Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel, Bizet’s Carmen by Opera Zuid and did the scenography for Die Zauberfloete, Amsterdam concert hall and for the internationally acclaimed production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Radio Kootwijk. Recently she designed the costumes for the farewell concert to Queen Beatrix and for the 40.000 audience theatre spectacle The Battle for Peace, with music by Junkie XL, directed by Luca Andrea Stappers.

Dieuweke designed set and costumes for Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Liaisons dangereuses (Augsburg Ballet) and the costumes for Celeste (National Ballet Cuba).

In 2011 Dieuweke teamed up with Floris Visser and Alex Brok for successful productions like Rossini’s Il signor Bruschino (NL/DE), Bizet’s Carmen (Delft, NL) and Puccini’s La Boheme (Osnabruck, DE) for which she signed for both costume and set design.
