Biography

Born in Bucharest, Romania, and educated at the Choreographic School in Bucharest and at the Vaganova School in Leningrad/St Petersburg.

From 1969 Principal Dancer with the Romanian State Opera, dancing leading roles in Swan Lake, Coppelia, Miraculous Mandarin, Giselle etc. and touring in Europe, Cuba etc.
In 1974-76 dancing with Ballet de Marseille, Roland Petit, as well as pedagogue to the company.
From 1976 with The Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm where the leading roles include: Onegin (Cranko), Miss Julie (Cullberg), Swan Lake, The Moor´s Pavane (Limon), Moon Reindeer (Cullberg), Giselle, Manon (MacMillan), Las Hermanas (MacMillan), Pillar of Fire (Tudor), Three Sisters (Panov), Romeo and Juliet (MacMillan) etc.

Parallel to dancing career also Company Teacher and Coach to The Royal Swedish Ballet and The Royal Swedish Ballet School.
Since 1977 also regular Guest Teacher with The Cullberg Company.

1985-88 Ballet Master at the Norwegian Ballet in Oslo.
1988-89 own production of Giselle for the Norwegian Ballet.

From 1990 regular Ballet Master with Arena di Verona in Italy.
Season 1991-92 Vice Director and 1st Ballet Master at Teatro alla Scala.
1992 Guest Teacher with Semperoper, Dresden
1993 Guest Ballet Master Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires
1994-1997 Guest Ballet Master with Opera di Roma
1995 Guest Teacher Finnish National Ballet, Helsinki
1996-1997 Guest Ballet Master with Teatro San Carlo, Napoli
1994-1999 Guest Ballet Master with Teatro alla Scala

Since 1995 regular Guest Teacher with NorrDans, Härnösand, Sweden, Ballet Academy, Stockholm, and Dansens Hus, Copenhagen.

Swedish citizen since 1978.
Speaks English, French, Italian, Russian, Swedish and Rumanian.

2003, 2005, 2010 reviving Cranko’s Onegin for Royal Swedish Ballet.
2010 reviving Onegin for La Scala, Milan with Roberto Bolle and Massimo Murru.
2011 revival Onegin for Teatro Colon and Universal Ballet, Seoul, South Korea.
2012 revival Onegin for La Scala Milan, Budapest and Teatro Colon.
