Kirill Serebrennikov is a laureate of the Stanislavsky Award, Golden Mask award, The Crystal Turandot Award, TEFI Award, the Rome film festival Grand prix, Cannes film festival prize, Lokarno festival, Kinotavr film festival, a participant of the Venice film festival and many other.

Graduated in physics from the Rostov State University in 1992. Since 1994, has directed a number of performances in Rostov theatres.

His first Moscow production was Plasticine by Vassily Sigarev at the Playwright and Directing Centre (2000). He created multiple productions at the Moscow Art Theatre, Sovremennik theatre, the Pushkin theatre filial, Tabakov Theatre studio, Latvian National Theatre.

He directed performances at the Mariinsky theatre (Saint Petersburg), at the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow), Komische Oper Berlin, Helikon Opera (Moscow), Staatsoper Stuttgart.

Serebrennikov worked a lot on TV and as a film director. Among his films are: Playing the Victim, Bed Stories, Yuriev Den, Korotkoe Zamikanie (The Shrimp’s Kiss novel), Betrayal, The Student, Rostov-Daddy, The Diary of a Murderer. Since 2006, Kirill Serebrennikov is one of the art-directors of the international festival-school Territory.

He is the founder and the artistic director of the "Platform" project (2011-14).

In 2012 his acting and directing students from the Moscow Art Theatre graduated and formed Studio Seven. Since 2012 he has been one of the residents of the Gogol Center.
