The prize is awarded annually in Positano in memory of the Russian choreographer who worked successfully in the West in the early 20th century and whose brilliant career started off at the Bolshoi Theatre. The prize-giving ceremony accompanied by a gala concert took place on 6 September. (In 2014 the Léonide Massine prize in this nomination was awarded to Olga Smirnova).
The new joint Benois-Massine Moscow-Positano Prize, set up in 2014, was garnered this year by the Royal Ballet premier Edward Watson who, in recent seasons, has performed frequently in Moscow.
The jury of the 2015 Léonide Massine Prize included leading critics and journalists: Leonetta Bentivoglio (La Repubblica, Italy), Tatiana Kuznetsova (Kommersant, Russia), Jean-Pierre Pastori (24 heures, Switzerland), Roger Salas (El Pais, Spain), Sergio Trombetta (La Stampa, Italy).
