Il Barbiere di Siviglia. New Performers

26.02.2020

Anna Goryachova is a welcome guest at major opera houses in the world: Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro Real in Madrid, Berlin State Opera, Zurich Opera House, Royal Danish Opera, Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, Norwegian National Opera in Oslo…

In 2019, she made her debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Marchesa Melibea (Il Viaggio a Reims). In the same year, she sang Dido in the new production of Dido and Aeneas.

She successfully performed the role of Rosina in Zurich, Bremen, Beaune and St. Petersburg. Many critics note that her voice – “a rare, rich, mellifluous, contralto, … with every note perfectly placed and almost threateningly expressive” (Seenandheard-international.com, 22 August 2013) – is an ideal fit for Rossini’s operas. Besides parts of Rosina and Marchesa Melibea, she also portrays Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri), Edoardo (Matilde di Shabran), Lucilla (La scala di seta), and sings a title role in La Cenerentola.

Young Canadian singer Josh Lovell just starting his career (nevertheless, a stellar one without any doubt). As recently as last year, he completed his tenure with the Ryan Opera Center of Lyric Opera of Chicago, which he entered after graduation of University of Michigan. Under young artist’s belt, there are performances in Pacific Opera Victoria, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Wolf Trap Opera, and festivals in Aspen, Florence and Salzburg, collaboration with Vancouver, Victoria, Toledo Symphony Orchestras, Music of the Baroque (Chicago), I Musici de Montréal, Victoria Baroque Players and three International Vocal Competition awards. In the season 2019, Josh Lovell became an ensemble member at Vienna State Opera where he performs leading parts.

Part of Count Almaviva he only sang once – at the Aspen Music Festival.
“Josh Lovell, whose sumptuously developed, lyric tenor will be a major addition to productions of works from the Baroque and bel canto repertoire. Lovell’s secure top notes, expressive line, and clear decoration in rapid passage work helped transform this Rossinian gem into a fitting first conclusion... Lovell’s impressive runs and top pitches call for further Rossinian contributions”. (Operatoday.com, 18 April 2018).

Moscow audience is already well familiar with Stanislav Kuflyuk. He participated in two premieres at the Bolshoi Theatre – Lev Dodin’s production of The Queen of Spades and Eugene Onegin staged by Yevgeny Arye. He performed Figaro at Grand Theatre Poznań and Silesian Opera in Bytom. “The voice is in good shape – big and resonant with a warm, healthy core and an easy line”. (Operatraveller.com, 10 June 2019).

José Fardilha performs at the top opera theatres: Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, La Scala, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real in Madrid, Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Bavarian State Opera... At the Bolshoi Theatre he sang Don Profondo and Baron Trombonok in Il Viaggio a Reims.

His Rossini repertoire includes L'Italiana in Algeri, Il Turco in Italia, La Cenerentola, La pietra del paragone. One of his signature roles is “fussy, unusually endearing Bartolo” (Guardian, 14 September 2016). “His rich baritone is clear and fluid and his comic timing is wonderful”. (Broadwaywrold.com, 14 September 2016). He sang Bartolo in Paris, London, Madrid, Berlin, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Copenhagen, and Santiago de Chile...Now he is to portray this character at the Bolshoi Theatre.
