Traviata gets stars together


Nadezhda Pavlova’ triumphant performance in Traviata, legendary production by Robert Wilson and Teodor Currentzis, which was presented at Diaghilev Festival – 2016 in Perm, brought all-Russian fame to a singer (performance was broadcasted in movie theatres throughout country). In addition, she received non-official status of opera prima donna and an official recognition from critics – National theatre award “The Golden Mask” and the prize of Moscow Music Critics Association.

Since the time she performed as Violetta in Luxemburg, Riga (Lithuanian National Opera), Minsk (The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus), Petrozavodsk (Musical Theatre of Karelia). Next season she will be appearing in Traviata at Zurich Opera and Finnish National Opera. On stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, Nadezhda Pavlova will perform this part for the first time.

For Dinara Alieva, part of Violetta Valéry, is not simply one of the most crucial in her repertoire. It is linked to her personal record as well: she was fortunate to perform this role more than two hundred times! Singer was applauded at Royal Opera Covent Garden, Hamburg State Opera, Oper Frankfurt, The Latvian National Opera, as well as at theatres in Russia and Azerbaijan.

“Exceptional” Alfredo, Liparit Avetisyan, according to British critic, won audience heart with his “absolutely stunning singing” (28 October 2021, “Guardian”), performing in October at Covent Garden in a revived Sir Richard Eyre’s production. On this stage specifically he debuted as Alfredo few years earlier, and soon after followed similar invitation to Sydney Opera. From 2017 onwards, Liparit Avetisyan sings at the Bolshoi Theatre. Besides, he performs this part in productions at Dresden Staatsoper, Berlin and Hamburg State Operas.

Arturo Chacón-Cruz debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2012 as Alfredo. This is one of the key roles in his broad repertoire, which encompasses more than fifty names. After his brilliant victory at International competition “Operalia” in 2005, he became widely known not only in his home country, Mexico, but also in the USA where he performed at Washington National Opera, San Francisco Opera, opera theaters in Los Angeles and Houston. With an equal success, his artistic career unfolded in Europe too: he was in demand in La Scala, Milano, Teatro Real in Madrid, The Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Theater an der Wien, Berlin State Opera…

Legendary Plácido Domingo sings a part of Giorgio Germont on our stage again. It was a long awaited debut, and it took place at the Bolshoi last season. Maestro Domingo is engaged in this opera for more than sixty years. At the age of nineteen he performed a small part of Gaston, the following year, 1961 – happened his first main role as Alfredo. After his transition to baritone repertoire, he brilliantly performs part of Germont-father. His interpretation conquered listeners of Metropolitan opera, LA Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Vienna, Royal Opera Covent Garden, La Scala in Milano, Mariinsky Theatre, Berlin State Opera and festivals such as Arena di Verona and Florence May Music Festival.

Stanislav Kuflyuk will perform on our stage as Giorgio Germont for the first time. Participant of two the premiers at the Bolshoi Theatre – The Queen of Spades produced by Lev Dodin (Prince Yeletsky) and Eugene Onegin by Eugene Arye (Onegin) – in the current season he debuted as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. With constant success, he performs part of Germont at theatres in Poland (Poznan, Bytom, Krakov). Next May, it will be his first time in this role on stage of Bolshoi Theatre in Warsaw.

Leading soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, Elchin Azizov, who is one of the first artists occupied in this performance, will take part in November series. He plays part of Giorgio Germont from 2012.

All performance will be under direction of chief conductor and music director Tugan Sokhiev.
