Having for the 16th time studied the ballet map of the world, the authoritative jury of the Benois de la Danse program is all set to name what, in its view, are the most brilliant, creative achievements in dance of the past year.
The most outstanding candidates will receive the Benois-2008 prize.

The 2008 opera season in the city of Cagliari opens with the premiere of a Bolshoi Theatre and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari co-production of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and of the Maiden Fevronia.

Carmen, one of the most popular operas of all times, is to return to the Bolshoi Theatre repertoire.

Bolshoi Ballet at State Kremlin Palace
The Ballet Company will be appearing again at the State Kremlin Palace: on 6 and 7 February, there will be two performances of Don Quixote and, on 19 and 20 March — two performances of La Fille du Pharaon; a whole series of performances, including La Bayadere and Swan Lake, is planned for April.

Later this month, the Bolshoi Theatre will be presenting another ballet premiere - La Sylphide.

The Yuri Bashmet International Charitable Foundation has awarded its Dmitri Shostakovich prize to Alexei Ratmansky. This is the first time the prize-giving ceremony will take place at the Bolshoi Theatre!

Richard Strauss programme
A concert of works by Richard Strauss continues the Bolshoi Theatre philarmonia season ticket concerts at the Big Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. At the concert, the Bolshoi Theatre will be presenting the famous German singer and Vienna State Opera soloist, Ricarda Merbeth, in her first performance in Russia.

During the Bolshoi Theatre's forthcoming London season, Carlos Acosta, Royal Ballet premier, will dance the part of Spartacus on 6 and 8 August at the London Coliseum.

In taking stock of 2006 Opus, the influential Swedish music journal, declared that the best symphony concert held in Sweden in the outgoing year was that given by the Goeteborg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Bolshoi Theatre principal conductor Alexander Vedernikov.

Florian Boesch returns to the Boshoi
On 27 and 28 February, the young but already famous - particularly in this role - Austrian baritone, Florian Boesch, will appear at the Bolshoi as Papageno (The Magic Flute). Boesch has been nominated for a Golden Mask National Theatre Festival award. And the performance of The Magic Flute, on the first day of the singer’s short tour, comes under the Festival auspices.

The Bolshoi Theatre is happy to present once again at its New Stage the Canadian trumpeter, Frederick Mills, one of the world's most outstanding performers of brass instruments. He will be appearing together with the Theatre's Bolshoi Brass Ensemble of Soloists.

On 17 and 18 February, two performances of the opera Eugene Onegin will be given as part of the European Opera Days Across Europe.
